Un excellent article du confrère américain searchserverVirtualization sorti aujourd’hui lève le voile sur quelques fonctionnalités de la prochaine version de VMware vSphere, la version 5, qui devrait être disponible au deuxième semestre 2011. La roadmap aurait en effet été présentée lors de la conférence Partner Exchange qui a lieu cette semaine à Orlando (US). Selon l’auteur de l’article Colin Steele, vSphere 5 devrait être annoncée avant le prochain VMworld. Probable, si VMware se cale sur le même modèle de sortie que pour la version 4.1, qui avait été annoncée en Juillet dernier.

Storage Distributed Resource Scheduler
vSphere 5 devrait inclure Storage Distributed Resource Scheduler, (l’équivalent de DRS pour stockage), apparemment réclamé par les clients, qui s’appuie sur Storage vMotion pour effectuer un équilibrage de charge automatique si l’un des disques est surchargé. Storage DRS devrait en outre permettre de définir des «pods» de stockage (groupes de disques), avec équilibrage de charge automatique du stockage, notion assez nouvelle, en fonction des besoins en capacité. Objectif : améliorer l’utilisation du stockage, et optimiser les machines virtuelles en fonction des besoins. Selon l’article, les spécialistes voient en cette fonctionnalité un plus pour les infrastructures virtuelles.

An issue that affects users with IBM hardware, running ESX/ESXi 4.1 has prompted us to issue this Support Alert.

When using IBM x3650 M3 or BladeCenter HS22V servers, you may experience these symptoms:

HBAs stop responding
Other PCIs devices may also stop responding
You see an an illegal vector shortly before an HBA stops responding to the driver. For example:

Dear VMware Customer,

With the recent release of VMware vSphere™ 4.1 and VMware vCenter™ 4.1 we wanted to clarify support for these platforms with the current shipping versions of VMware View.

The currently available versions of VMware View including VMware View 3 and VMware View 4 are not supported with vSphere and vCenter version 4.1. Customers running these versions of VMware View should not upgrade their View environment to vSphere 4.1 or vCenter 4.1. There are no current plans to support VMware vSphere 4.1 and VMware vCenter 4.1 with existing versions of VMware View. Support for vSphere 4.1 and vCenter 4.1 are planned with upcoming versions of VMware View including View 4.5.

• Utiliser les Host Profiles pour préserver la cohérence de configuration des hôtes ESX™/ESXi et pour gérer la conformité de configuration
